چکیده

Synthetic human pancreatic polypeptide stimulated pancreatic somatostatin secretion by isolated rat islets and by the isolated perfused rat pancreas. In contrast, synthetic bovine pancreatic polypeptide and the C-terminal hexapeptide had no effect on somatostatin secretion. Synthetic human pancreatic polypeptide had only a mild stimulatory effect on glucagon secretion at the highest concentration of the peptide used (2.2 x 1O~ M) and in the presence of 16.7 mM glUCOSe. DIABETES 31:178-181, 1982.

Introduction: Type I diabetes mellitus is caused by autoimmune destruction of the insulin-producing β-cells. A new potential method for curing the disease is transplantation of differentiated insulin- secreting cells from human embryonic stem cells. Methods: Human embryonic stem cell lines (Royan H1) were used to produce embryoid bodies. Differentiation carried out by growth factor-mediated se...

Colocalization of Somatostatin Receptor sst5 and Insulin in Rat Pancreatic β-Cells.

Somatostatin, also known as somatotropin release-inhibiting factor (SRIF), is secreted by pancreatic delta-cells and inhibits the secretion of both insulin and glucagon. SRIF initiates its actions by binding to a family of six G protein-coupled receptors (sst1, -2A, -2B, -3, -4, and -5) encoded by five genes. Messenger RNA for both sst2 and sst5 have been reported in the rat pancreas, and the s...

Role of endogenous nitric oxide in the control of exocrine and endocrine pancreatic secretion in humans.

BACKGROUND Nitric oxide (NO) is an unstable vasodilator formed by NO synthetase (NOS) from L-arginine (L-Arg) in various cells but its role in the control of pancreatic secretion in humans has not been examined. AIMS This study was designed to determine the role of endogenous NO in the control of exocrine and endocrine pancreas using NOS inhibitor, NG-monomethyl-L-Arg (L-NMMA). METHODS Panc...

Role of Melatonin, Galanin, and RFamide Neuropeptides QRFP26 and QRFP43 in the Neuroendocrine Control of Pancreatic β-Cell Function

Glucose homeostasis is finely regulated by a number of hormones and peptides released mainly from the brain, gastrointestinal tract, and muscle, regulating pancreatic secretion through cellular receptors and their signal transduction cascades. The endocrine function of the pancreas is controlled by islets within the exocrine pancreatic tissue that release hormones like insulin, glucagon, somato...

Isolation and characterization of immunoreactive somatostatin from fish pancreatic islets.

Using a radioimmunoassay with labeled synthetic tetradecapeptide somatostatin, a large amount of immunoreactive somatostatin was found in the principal pancreatic islet of the channel catfish (Ictalurus punctata). The purpose of these experiments was to isolate and characterize the somatostatin-like material. Extracts of islets were chromatographed on a Bio-Gel P-30 column, and over 90% of the ...
